Chapter 014: They are waiting to laugh at him
Pei Cheng closed the room door. As soon as he turned around, he saw Jiang YanZhi standing barefoot on the ground, looking at him without a blink. Pei Cheng was stunned, and then walked quickly to the little boy and picked him up.
Jiang YanZhi’s whole body was cold. It was really not as if he had just woken up from the bed.
Pei Cheng felt as if the headache he was supposed to suffer came two years in advance. Why didn’t he know that Jiang YanZhi was so clingy?
Retracted in his father’s warm embrace, Jiang YanZhi dully explained: “I, I can’t sleep.”
Pei Cheng walked to the bed holding Jiang YanZhi, rolled up the child with a quilt, and continued to hold him in his arms to help him warm up. Pei Cheng touched Jiang YanZhi’s hair, helpless but indulged: “Don’t do this in the future, or I’ll be worried.”
Jiang YanZhi buried his head and said nothing, and looked a little aggrieved.
Pei Cheng didn’t know why his heart was softened. He had never felt that pampering children was a good thing, especially for boys, but now he was inexplicably softened.
Yet, still very distressed.
Jiang YanZhi shed tears without warning, and the tears plopped down like it was raining. After a while, the whole face was full of tears, his nose was also red, and then with the falling tears and snot, his face was messy, making his little face ugly but cute.
“What are you crying for?” Pei Cheng didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “I haven’t scolded you yet.”
Jiang YanZhi cried for a while, but the tears could not be controlled yet. He sniffed and choked: “I, I am afraid.” Pei Cheng touched Jiang YanZhi’s head, thinking that he was afraid about following Jiang LinZhi to learn to study tomorrow, and asked, “You don’t want to learn from your father?”
Jiang YanZhi wiped his tears with his sleeve, “No, not afraid.”
“Then, what are you afraid of?” As soon as Pei Cheng’s voice fell, it was as if he had caught something, he squinted and said, “You are afraid that I will leave you alone here and return to the auxiliary courtyard.”
Jiang YanZhi said nothing, as if he acknowledged it by silence.
Pei Cheng held up the little boy’s chin with a strong attitude, stared into his eyes, and said, “Listen.”
Jiang YanZhi who was sad, was now confused.
Pei Cheng looked at Jiang YanZhi who looked like this and wanted to laugh, “Remember. I am your Dad, and even if I have to lose someone, I will never abandon you.”
Jiang YanZhi raised his head, after a long time, he nodded heavily. He knew the difference between ‘Father’ and ‘Dad’, and he also knew the meaning of the phrase “I will never abandon you”.
“Don’t cry anymore.” Pei Cheng lowered his eyes and wiped Jiang YanZhi’s tears with his fingertips, feeling complicated.
Jiang YanZhi obediently raised his head and let Pei Cheng wipe the tears for him.
Pei Cheng wiped it and thought of himself when he was a child. If someone had helped him wipe his tears and hugged him when he was crying in his childhood, maybe he would not always be disgusted and reluctant to remember his childhood.
After holding the child for a while, Pei Cheng’s hand became sore, and he was too lazy to put down the sticky little guy who was still pestering him, so they directly fell on the bed in that position.
Only after his entire face was covered by the quilt, Jiang YanZhi reacted, and quickly got out of the quilt using all his hands and feet, crawled to Pei Cheng’s chest, and the he lay on his stomach on it, without moving anymore.
Pei Cheng felt as if he was being pressed down on his chest by a jack. He couldn’t breathe for a while. He stretched out his hand and patted Jiang YanZhi’s ass with carelessness, and said, “Go down and sleep.”
Jiang YanZhi whined and rubbed on Pei Cheng, but refused to go down.
Pei Cheng held the little boy’s back with one hand, dragged his ass with the other, pulled the person from his chest and laid the little boy beside him.
Jiang YanZhi, fuming with anger, did not speak.
After the weight of Jiang YanZhi was gone, Pei Cheng immediately became more comfortable, but Jiang YanZhi made a long face, and did not turn his head to talk to Pei Cheng in anger for a long time.
Jiang YanZhi faced the wall, struck out his little ass, curled his upper body up, his small face was full of grievances and anger, but in reality, he was secretly and eagerly expecting his dad to come and coax him.
Because the burden on the bottom of his heart was relieved, Pei Cheng could not even wait till the little boy turned around to “forgive” him, he had gradually fallen asleep in a daze.
Jiang YanZhi turned around cautiously and saw that Pei Cheng was already asleep, a hint of grievance flashed under his eyes. He pressed his lips and moved slightly towards Pei Cheng’s direction.
Pei Cheng was not awakened.
Jiang YanZhi finally got his wish and lay down in the nearest place to Pei Cheng. He stretched out his hand happily, grabbed the clothes on Pei Cheng’s chest, closed his eyes, and fell asleep after a while.
When Pei Cheng woke up again, the sky outside the window was already dark, and Jiang YanZhi who was lying in his arms was still sleeping.
Pei Cheng rubbed his forehead. It was not early anymore, and he had to go to the antechamber later. Afraid that they might not have enough time, Pei Cheng woke the little boy up.
Jiang YanZhi opened his eyes in a daze, and saw Pei Cheng sitting up straight; he followed by sitting up, imitated Pei Cheng and rubbed his eyes.
Pei Cheng did not bother with him, turned his head and shouted outside the room, “Come in.”
ErXi opened the door; SanXi followed behind him, and lit the candle in the room.
The dim room was lit up in an instant, and Pei Cheng asked in somewhat husky voice: “What time is it?”
ErXi said, “It’s You time.*”
*(T/N: 酉时 - Youshi (yǒushí) or You time, between 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.)
Pei Cheng lifted the quilt and asked sternly, “Have the Northern Courtyard sent someone to the Eastern Courtyard?”
ErXi didn’t expect that Pei Cheng’s reaction would be this big and he was really frightened, it took a while, and then, he replied: “Second Young Madam, the Northern Courtyard hasn’t sent anyone yet.”
Pei Cheng was relieved, absent-mindedly putting on his shoes, and without looking at Jiang YanZhi who was still waiting for him on the bed, he walked to the window and said, “Has Second Master gone out?”
ErXi and SanXi glanced at each other, the former had no choice and he replied: “There’s no movement from the Second Master’s courtyard. Second Young Madam, if you are concerned, do you want this servant to go to the Second Master’s courtyard and ask?”
Pei Cheng’s courtyard and Jiang LinZhi’s courtyard were only separated by a wall, very close yet far away.
SanXi brought Pei Cheng’s cloak. The wind was strong at night, and Pei Cheng was just recovered from a serious illness. If the wind blows, he might fall ill again. Holding the cloak for Pei Cheng shakingly, SanXi silently helped Pei Cheng to tie the cloak.
Jiang YanZhi sat by the bed, ErXi knelt on the ground and helped him put on shoes. After putting on the shoes, he put the cotton jacket on Jiang YanZhi.
After getting dressed neatly, Pei Cheng pulled Jiang YanZhi and said, “Let’s go and find your father first.”
ErXi and SanXi followed Pei Cheng. The four of them just walked to the gate of the courtyard and they happened to see Jiang LinZhi also walking to the gate.
Jiang LinZhi, who they ran into ‘coincidently’ on the way, said: “Let’s go. Northern Courtyard sends people to hurry us.”
Pei Cheng followed Jiang LinZhi’s footsteps and thought while walking, ‘was it really just a coincidence?’
The group rushed to the Northern Courtyard. When they arrived, everyone had already taken their seats. It was very quiet and no one spoke, there was no warm and harmonious family reunion banquet that ordinary people have.
Jiang LinZhi and his group had not taken their seats yet, they heard the Old Lady sitting on the main seat said in a deliberately ambiguous manner: “This Jiang family, I really don’t know who is in charge of it now. Even just for a meal, one has to be invited over and over again. Could it be that even the rules have been forgotten?”
The whole hall was silent. Master Jiang was still smiling, as if he hadn’t heard anything, and Hu XiaYun turned her head to talk to Master Jiang.
The other guests who belonged to the Old Lady’s paternal home also did not speak; everyone was waiting to laugh at Jiang Second Master.
